Abraham's Woods, Natural landmark forest in Green County, Wisconsin.
The forty-acre forest contains sugar maple, basswood, red oak, bitternut hickory, hackberry, butternut, slippery elm, and white oak species throughout the area.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison received ownership of the forest, leading to its designation as a Wisconsin State Natural Area in 1961 and National Natural Landmark in 1973.
The forest serves as an outdoor research laboratory where students and scientists study ecological systems and forest management techniques.
Visitors can access the forest through designated trails, which provide opportunities for hiking, nature observation, and educational activities throughout the seasons.
A natural amphitheater forms within the forest due to a surrounding sandstone ridge that faces eastward, creating distinct ecological conditions.
