Belle Grove Plantation, Manor plantation in Frederick County, US.

Belle Grove is a Federal-style house built in the 1790s in the northern Shenandoah Valley, constructed from limestone with a broad front facing the valley landscape. The building stands on a sizable estate that visitors can tour today.

The house was built between 1794 and 1797 and later became important during the American Civil War. A Union general used it as his headquarters during a major battle in 1864.

The grounds include working orchards and garden spaces that show how people farmed in this region long ago. You can also find a cemetery that honors those who were enslaved here.

The property is located in Middletown and can be toured with a guide, especially festive during December and early January with seasonal decorations. Wear sturdy shoes since the grounds have extensive outdoor areas to explore.

The original owner Isaac Hite Jr. married the sister of President James Madison, a connection that greatly elevated the estate's standing. This family tie to one of America's most influential families made it a center of local importance.
