Capital to Coast Trail, Multi-use trail between Trenton and Manasquan, United States
The Capital to Coast Trail is a multi-use path spanning New Jersey from the Delaware River at Trenton to the Atlantic Ocean at Manasquan. Several sections are completed today, including the Edgar Felix Bikeway and a segment in West Windsor, while other portions remain under development.
The path originated in 2000 when Fred Lockenmeyer and Rudy Buser founded the Friends of the Capital to Coast Trail to create this statewide connection. The project aimed to link the populated coastal areas with Trenton's historic center.
The route crosses areas shaped by water and agriculture for generations, and travelers can experience this history through open landscapes and river views as they walk the finished sections.
The completed sections are open to walkers and cyclists and provide a sense of the full route when finished. Visitors should check ahead to see which segments are passable, since the project remains incomplete.
Once finished, this path will rank as New Jersey's third longest trail, behind only the Delaware and Raritan Canal Trail and the Appalachian Trail. This standing reflects the project's ambitious scope for the state.
