Casa Blanca, Historic house museum in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico
Casa Blanca is a two-story colonial residence in the heart of Old San Juan featuring white-painted stone walls and Spanish architectural details throughout its structure. The property includes an inner courtyard with an Andalusian-style garden planted with traditional species.
The house was built in 1521 as a residence for Juan Ponce de León and remained in family hands until the mid-18th century. It later served as a military facility under different administrations.
The house displays furniture, paintings, and objects from the 16th and 17th centuries that show how Spanish colonial families lived. The rooms give visitors a sense of daily life in that period.
The house sits on San Sebastián Street in the Old City and is accessible by foot along the cobblestone streets of the neighborhood. A morning visit works well since the space feels less crowded and you can see the exhibits more comfortably.
The upper floor offers views across San Juan Bay and toward the harbor entrance from its windows. The garden holds plant species that were introduced during the American period and have remained on the property for generations.
