Christ Episcopal Church and Parish House
Christ Episcopal Church and Parish House, Episcopal church in New Bern, US.
Christ Episcopal Church is an Episcopal church in New Bern built in 1871 that incorporated the brick walls of a previous structure from 1824. The building displays Gothic Revival features with a three-stage entrance tower topped by a pyramidal roof and octagonal spire.
The congregation was established during the early colonial period and replaced its original church in 1871 with the current brick structure. A Stick Style entrance porch was added in 1884 to enhance the Gothic character of the building.
The church holds a five-piece communion service crafted by Mordecai Fox in London during 1752, featuring royal connections through its English origins. This silver piece reflects the congregation's ties to traditions established during the colonial era.
The adjacent parish house was built between 1904 and 1908 and provides space for community gatherings and religious education classes. The location sits centrally in New Bern on Pollock Street for easy access.
The church received recognition on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, acknowledging its importance as a regional cultural landmark. This designation protects the building and its architectural details for future generations.
