Elk Rock State Park, State park in Marion County, Iowa.
Elk Rock State Park sits along Red Rock Reservoir in two separate sections with camping areas, boat launching points, hiking and biking trails, and natural woodland. The land offers different zones for water activities, outdoor recreation, and exploring nature.
The land was home to the Sac and Fox tribes until 1842, when these nations agreed to allow settlers into the region. This early agreement shaped how the area was later settled and used.
The park set aside a special area for horse enthusiasts with stalls, hitching posts, and a riding arena where equestrians can bring their animals and spend time together. This dedication reflects how much riding means to people in the region.
The park has more than 80 camping spots, most with electrical hookups, and restroom and shower facilities spread throughout. Boat ramps give easy access to the water for boating and fishing.
The water here supports more than 40 fish species, while the surrounding woods contain over 50 different tree types and numerous wildflowers. This variety makes it interesting for nature watchers and photographers.
