Weißeck

Weißeck is a mountain in the Radstadt Tauern range, reaching 2,711 meters and displaying distinctive pale dolomite rock formations that dominate its steep slopes. The summit features sharp ridges and rock faces that create its striking silhouette.

The mountain was first explored by mountaineers in the 19th century, who established various climbing routes and initiated alpine exploration in this region. These early expeditions laid the groundwork for today's recreational use of the summit.

Local mountaineering traditions include seasonal gatherings at the Sticklerhütte mountain hut, located 1,965 meters southwest of the summit.

The ascent follows marked trails from either Muhr or Zederhaus, with hiking path 740 providing a well-signed route to the summit. Visitors should bring proper mountain gear and have experience with steep terrain, as the slopes are exposed and demanding.

The mountain holds notable fluorite deposits that attracted mineral collectors and researchers conducting geological studies of the area. These mineral occurrences remain a rare feature that interests visitors with a passion for natural geology.
