Kölnbreinspitze

Kölnbreinspitze is a 2,934 meter summit in the Western Tauern Alps situated within High Tauern National Park. The mountain displays steep rocky flanks and stands as a notable peak among the surrounding alpine landscape.

The summit gained importance during early alpine climbing development when mountaineers established routes through the Ankogel Group. This evolution made it a regular destination for climbers exploring the technical challenges of the Western Tauern range.

The peak serves as an educational resource for geology students who study the distinct rock formations and mineral compositions found in the Western Tauern Alps.

The peak is most accessible between June and September when weather conditions are generally more favorable. Experienced mountaineers should follow marked trails and be prepared for steep terrain and changing alpine conditions.

Kölnbreinspitze ranks as the third highest peak among 482 summits in the Tamsweg-Lungau region, with a prominence of 225 meters.
