Leopoldsberg

Leopoldsberg is a mountain summit northeast of Vienna that rises about 425 meters above sea level and overlooks the surrounding landscape. The slopes are covered with forests and the peak holds a church that serves as a focal point for the area.

The mountain played a key role during the siege of Vienna in 1683, when Polish and Austrian forces gathered here to defend the city against Ottoman attack. This moment marked a turning point in European history.

The church at the summit draws both pilgrims and visitors who gather here to pray and reflect. Its white facade stands out from the Danube valley below and has become a landmark in Vienna's religious landscape.

The easiest way to reach the summit is by bus line 38A from Nußdorf station, with regular service throughout the day. For those who prefer to walk, several trails lead up the mountain with varying difficulty levels.

The southern slopes show traces of old vineyard cultivation, while the northern sides are dominated by beech forests. This contrast reflects how sunlight and past land use shaped the mountain's different environments.
