Palais Kinsky, Baroque palace in Freyung, Vienna, Austria
Palais Kinsky is a Baroque palace featuring a grand yellow and white facade decorated with ornate details, statues, and a monumental entrance portal at Freyung 4. The building spans multiple floors and currently houses an auction house, event spaces, shops, and a restaurant.
The palace was commissioned in 1713 by Count Wirich Philipp von Daun and designed by architect Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt, completed by 1719. Over the centuries, the building changed hands and eventually became a venue for art, commerce, and social gatherings.
The interior spaces display elaborate Baroque frescoes by Carlo Carlone alongside ornate mirrors and carved wooden parquet floors. These details reflect the artistic taste and wealth that aristocratic families wanted to showcase.
The building is easily accessible and the main halls on the ground floor are often open during the day for visitors interested in exploring the architecture. It is worth checking in advance about special events or exhibitions, as access to certain areas may vary.
Polish general Józef Poniatowski, who later became a Marshal of France, was born within these walls in 1763. This connection to one of Europe's important military figures adds an unexpected historical layer to the palace.
