Burg Lichtentann

Burg Lichtentann is a castle ruin in the Salzburg region perched above the village of Henndorf. The site displays sections of original walls, restored gatehouse features with defensive openings, and remains of interior structures from the medieval period.

The fortress first appeared in written records in 1282 as a stronghold of the Tann family. Following the extinction of this noble lineage around 1398, the castle changed hands several times before being gradually abandoned.

The site shows how medieval fortress design was adapted to the local landscape and hillside terrain. Visitors experience how people used such structures to control the region from a strategic vantage point.

The ruins are accessible via a marked hiking trail starting from the Berg district, though the approach involves a steep climb. Once at the top, benches and tables provide places to rest and take in the surroundings during your visit.

Inside the ruins sits a grass-covered courtyard with the remains of a stone well still visible beneath the vegetation. This feature reveals how people in medieval times solved the challenge of obtaining fresh water at elevation.
