Furgler, Mountain summit in Serfaus, Austria
Furgler is a peak in the Samnaun Alps that reaches 3,004 meters above sea level and forms a notable point in the landscape above the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis ski area. The summit area features a wooden cross and sits in high alpine terrain with open views across the surrounding ridges and valleys.
The peak received its first summit cross in 1957, which was later replaced in 1988 with a nine-meter wooden cross secured by eight cables for improved stability. The newer cross was engineered with better techniques to withstand the extreme weather conditions found at this altitude.
Memorial tablets at the summit honor local figures and contain inscriptions about the connection between human strength and mountain heights.
When planning to climb the mountain, hikers should expect two possible routes that begin from different starting points in the ski area and offer varying difficulty levels. Carrying enough water and energy food is important since the route represents a full-day activity.
Furgler is the northernmost three-thousand-meter peak in the Samnaun Group, offering views from its summit that extend to the Zugspitze in Germany. This geographic position makes it a special vantage point for far-reaching views into the neighboring alpine region.
