Ennstaler Hütte, Alpine mountain hut in Admont, Austria
Ennstaler Hütte is a mountain shelter in the Gesäuse region located at 1544 meters elevation that provides accommodation and meals for hikers exploring the area. The building has simple sleeping quarters and a dining room where visitors rest and refuel before continuing their mountain walks.
The hut was established in 1885 as one of the first organized shelters for mountaineers in the Gesäuse region. Since then it has served as a reliable base for alpine activities in this mountain landscape.
The hut maintains Austrian alpine traditions through communal dining where guests share meals together and enjoy regional specialties like cheese spaetzle and Brettljause that reflect local food culture. Visitors experience how the mountain community gathers around traditional dishes and passes down these customs with each season.
Access is gained via several hiking trails, with the route from Gstatterboden taking approximately three hours and marked as trail 646. The hut is most accessible during warmer months when snow does not block the paths.
The hut serves as a launching point for climbing expeditions to the south face of Tieflimauer, a challenging destination for experienced mountaineers. From here visitors can access some of the most rewarding technical climbing routes in the region.
