Jubiläumswarte, Observation tower in Bad Vöslau, Austria.
Jubiläumswarte is a stone observation tower on Harzberg mountain near Bad Vöslau, built in castle-like style with crenellations and corner blocks. From its peak at about 21 meters high, visitors look out across the Wienerbecken region to the Schneeberg mountain range.
The tower was built in 1898 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Emperor Franz Joseph I's reign and was funded through public donations. This dedication made it a monument marking a key moment of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Architect Anton Kainrath designed this stone structure with corner blocks and battlements, reflecting the late 19th century architectural preferences for castle-like elements.
The tower is accessible by several hiking paths, including one via a forest road leading near a mountain shelter. Wear sturdy shoes as some trails are steep and uneven.
On the slopes of Harzberg near the tower sits a kangaroo farm, surprising visitors with an unexpected encounter in the mountains. This unusual presence adds an unexpected dimension to a visit beyond just the views.
