Filmoor-Standschützenhütte, Mountain hut in Lienz District, Austria.
Filmoor-Standschützenhütte is a mountain hut situated at 2,350 meters on the main ridge of the Carnic Alps in Eastern Tyrol. The building provides shelter and basic overnight accommodations for mountaineers crossing this high alpine terrain.
The Austrian military built this refuge in 1976, naming it after the local militia who played a role in mountain warfare during the First World War. The hut reflects the historical connection between this alpine region and the soldiers who once operated in these mountains.
The mountain hut maintains traditional Alpine hospitality standards, serving regional dishes prepared with ingredients carried up the mountain by the staff.
The hut can be reached via hiking trails starting from Obertilliach and ascending through Leitnertal valley. Parking is available at lower elevation at Tränkenbrücke, from where the walk to the hut takes several hours on foot.
The hut uses solar panels for heating water and received environmental certification in 2012. This detail shows how mountain refuges in sensitive alpine areas can operate with environmental care in mind.
