Schloss Bach, Sankt Urban, Renaissance château in Sankt Urban, Austria
Schloss Bach is a Renaissance estate situated on a slope north of Lake Sankt Urban, designed with square towers at its northeastern and southwestern corners. The building features bay windows at its other two corners and displays coupled windows along its north and south facades.
The estate evolved from a medieval defensive tower documented in 1192 until Christoph Freiherr von Egkh transformed it into a Renaissance château in 1596. This transformation marked the shift from a fortified structure to a representative residence.
The interior rooms display woodcut patterns on coffered ceilings that frame the spaces with ornamental bands. These handcrafted details from the 16th century shape the character of how people experienced the rooms.
The château functions as a private event venue for conferences and occasions and is not regularly open to visitors. Renovations between 1997 and 1999 restored the eastern loggia arcades and uncovered frescoes on the second floor.
The southern facade features red sandstone framing around the main entrance, which distinguishes this building from others of its period. This material and its careful craftsmanship reveal the attention to detail in designing the entry area.
