Hotel zur Post, Bad Ischl, Historic hotel in Bad Ischl, Austria
Hotel zur Post is a protected historic building in Bad Ischl, located between St. Nikolaus Parish Church and the Lehartheater. It features a marble portal from its original construction period and today houses private apartments, offices, medical practices, and commercial spaces.
Franz and Magdalena Koch constructed the building from 1827 to 1828. It served as the imperial post office until 1895, with stables for 120 horses.
The dining hall preserves decorative stucco walls and a coffered ceiling with arabesques, animal motifs, and fruit designs from the 19th century. These ornaments show the wealth and taste of that era, visible in every detail.
The building is not open to the public today, as it functions as a private space with various occupants. From outside, you can admire the architecture and marble portal on the facade while walking through central Bad Ischl.
The property included the Postalm, acquired in 1862 specifically as grazing land for the numerous postal service horses. This additional land shows how important the post office was to the region and how extensive its operations were.
