Stadtpfarrkirche, Parish church in Bad Ischl, Austria
The Stadtpfarrkirche is a parish church in Bad Ischl featuring a Gothic tower rising about 72 meters high. The building spans roughly 52 by 22 meters and combines Gothic architecture with later additions and modifications.
An earlier church once stood on this site but was completely rebuilt between 1770 and 1780 with funding from Empress Maria Theresa. The Gothic tower from 1490 was preserved and remains the oldest part of the current structure.
The church is dedicated to Saint Nicholas, protector of inland boatmen. This choice reflects how the town's water routes and river trade shaped its identity.
The church is accessible during services and viewable from the outside at any time. Its central location in Bad Ischl makes it easy to find and there are parking options nearby.
The Gothic tower with its distinctive octagonal spire dates to 1490 and was the only element of the original church to survive the 18th-century rebuilding. This detail makes the church a testament to different periods in one location.
