Gobelwarte, Steel observation tower in Grein, Austria
Gobelwarte is a steel observation tower near Grein that lets visitors climb up to see the surrounding landscape. The tower stands above the valley and gives clear views in many directions from its platform.
The original tower was built in 1894 to mark a special occasion for a local organization. Since then it has served as a viewing point in the region.
The base of the tower features a 5-meter stainless steel art sculpture called Strudengauer Burgspektakel, created by artist Miguel Horns.
You can walk to the tower on several hiking paths that go through forests and take about an hour. Wearing proper footwear helps when walking through wooded areas.
