Obstansersee-Hütte, Mountain hut in Lienz District, Austria.
Obstansersee-Hütte sits at 2,304 meters on the northern shore of Lake Obstansersee in the Carnic Alps. The facility provides 19 beds in rooms and 50 dormitory spaces with modern amenities including heated showers and flush toilets.
The Austrian Alpine Club built this mountain refuge to support mountaineers and hikers in the Carnic Alps. The structure has maintained its original purpose across generations and continues to serve as an important resting point for the region.
The hut serves traditional Austrian mountain dishes prepared from regional dairy products sourced from local farmers. These meals are central to the daily experience and reflect how farming and hospitality remain connected in the high Alps.
The hut operates from June to September and provides accommodations with warm showers and modern sanitation. Visitors should prepare for cool weather and wear sturdy footwear, as the site is accessible only by hiking trails.
The refuge operates a small hydroelectric plant for electricity and received environmental certification in 2012. This independent power source makes sustainable operations possible at this remote high-altitude location where standard power lines would be impractical.
