Schloss Velden, Renaissance castle hotel in Velden am Wörther See, Austria
Schloss Velden is a Renaissance castle on the southern shore of Lake Wörther, now operating as a hotel property and recognizable by its yellow exterior facade and architectural elements spanning several centuries. The building includes a lakeside pier and extensive outdoor areas that provide direct access to the waterfront.
Count Bartholomäus Khevenhüller began construction of the original castle in 1590, which reached completion in 1603. Nearly three centuries later, in 1890, the building was converted into a hotel property, giving it the tourism function it maintains today.
The building rose to fame through the television series 'Ein Schloss am Wörthersee,' which was produced here from 1990 to 1992 and recorded numerous episodes at this original location. The filming helped turn the property into a symbol of Austrian lakeside leisure culture and continues to draw visitors from across Europe to this day.
Guided tours through selected areas can be arranged, and the Schlossstern Restaurant offers refined dining for guests and visitors. Overnight stays are available in different room categories, with advance booking recommended.
The collection of historical photographs documents visits from notable guests such as the King of Thailand and Somerset Maugham throughout more than a century of operation as a hotel. These images are displayed in different areas of the property and offer insight into the accommodation's illustrious past.
