Fish Museum & Biodiversity Center, Fish and biodiversity research center in Mymensingh, Bangladesh.
The Fish Museum & Biodiversity Center in Mymensingh displays about 230 preserved freshwater fish species from Bangladesh through interactive exhibitions and specialized media rooms. The collection is organized by habitat and gives a complete view of the country's aquatic variety.
The center was founded in 2009 as a collaboration between Bangladesh Agricultural University and Stirling University. This partnership created a major research and conservation institution for the region.
The center tells the story of how fishing has shaped life in Bangladesh and why protecting fish species matters for local communities today. Visitors learn how sustainable practices help preserve the waters that people depend on.
The museum is open only on Fridays and Saturdays, with two visiting time slots available each day. Advance reservation is required to ensure access.
The center holds one of the largest collections of riverine fish species in Southeast Asia. It is also developing a cryogenic gene bank to preserve the genetic material of these fish for future generations.
