Olympisch Stadion Antwerp, football stadium in Antwerp, Belgium
Olympisch Stadion Antwerp is a football stadium in Antwerp, Belgium, built in 1920 for the Summer Olympics. The venue has approximately 12,771 seats distributed across four stands and features a grass pitch measuring about 105 meters long and 68 meters wide.
Construction began in July 1919 and the stadium opened in May 1920 to host the Summer Olympics, where nine different sports took place. After the Games, it was converted into a dedicated football stadium as the athletic track was removed and capacity gradually reduced over subsequent renovations.
The stadium is located in the Kiel neighborhood and is easily accessible by tram, with lines like tram 2 and tram 4 operating from the main railway station. The journey from the city center takes about 20 minutes and the surrounding area is quiet with local activity before and after match days.
The 1920 Olympic Games held here marked the first use of the Olympic flag and the athlete's oath, two traditions that continue at all Games today. The stadium originally had a bowl shape with an athletic track, but these historic features were later removed to meet modern football standards.
