Royal Flemish Opera, Opera house in central Antwerp, Belgium
The Royal Flemish Opera features a grand auditorium with multiple levels, ornate decorative elements, and advanced stage facilities for performances.
Established in 1907, the opera house emerged from earlier theatre venues in Antwerp, including the 1834 Bourlaschouwburg and previous structures dating to 1661.
The institution presents Dutch-language opera productions alongside international works, representing the linguistic and artistic heritage of Flanders.
The opera house reopened in 2007 after extensive renovations that enhanced the main auditorium, office spaces, and technical infrastructure.
Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, which operates in this venue, received recognition as Opera Company of the Year at the 2019 International Opera Awards.
