Borrekens Castle, Medieval castle in Vorselaar, Belgium.
Borrekens Castle is a medieval castle in Vorselaar, Belgium, built from white sandstone on a rectangular floor plan. A wide moat surrounds the entire building, and fortified towers flank the main entrance.
The original fortress was built in 1270 by knights Arnolf and Gerard Rotselaar as an outpost for the Dukes of Brabant. In the 19th century, the building was heavily remodeled in the neo-Gothic style, giving it much of the appearance it has today.
The castle takes its name from the Borrekens family, who lived here in the medieval period before the estate passed through several noble hands. From the forest paths around the moat, visitors today can clearly see the towers and the white sandstone facade.
The castle is private property and cannot be entered, but the forest paths around the moat are open to walkers. Access is near Vispluk 3 in Vorselaar, where parking is available for those who want to explore the grounds on foot.
The estate includes a farm built in 1686 that had to be fully rebuilt after a fire in 1920. This shows that the property was not only a noble residence but also an active farming operation for centuries.
