Château Schimper, Medieval fortress in Plombières, Belgium
Château Schimper was a stone fortress on elevated ground in Moresnet featuring defensive characteristics typical of medieval construction. The structure followed the architectural approaches common to noble residences in this region during that era.
The castle was first documented in 1355 when Guys van Chimpier was recorded as its owner. The family maintained control over generations amid regional conflicts until the structure gradually declined.
The castle served as a residence for local nobility and shaped the region's medieval character. Today, only old photographs and remnants remind visitors of its former importance to the area.
The castle no longer stands today, but visitors can explore the surrounding area along marked walking trails. The Moresnet district offers various paths for walking and discovering the landscape on foot.
The fortress completely vanished in 1955 after decades of decay, leaving only vintage postcards as evidence of its existence. These photographs show a remarkable structure that has entirely disappeared from the landscape today.
