Château de Haltinne, Medieval château in Gesves, Belgium

Château de Haltinne is a medieval castle in Gesves set within expansive grounds containing agricultural land, forests, meadows, and four ponds. These ponds are fed by the Struviaux stream and natural springs, creating a layered landscape around the main building.

The property originated in 1329 through a land exchange involving the Count of Namur. Over centuries, the site developed through different periods, and traces of this long past remain visible in what stands today.

The grand stone staircase inside features decorative statuettes portraying the four seasons, showing how regional craftsmanship became part of the design. Walking through the rooms, visitors notice these details that reflect local artistic traditions.

The grounds are accessible and have undergone recent restoration work to preserve them for visitors. It helps to set aside time for exploring the various areas like forests and meadows, as the property is quite spread out.

The entrance gate was originally created for King Leopold II at another château before ending up here. This unexpected royal connection adds a hidden layer to what visitors see upon arrival.
