Bonneville Castle, Heritage château in Bonneville, Wallonia, Belgium
Bonneville Castle is a manor house in Andenne with French gardens and Mosan architecture, displaying stone walls, steep roofs, and symmetrical elements. The building combines the structure of an older keep with later additions into a coherent whole.
The estate began in the 15th century as a farmstead with a keep before Jacques de Zualart acquired it in 1617 and transformed it into a château. The de Tignée family took ownership later and shaped the further development of the property.
The castle shows how Belgian nobility lived and built during the 17th century, using regional Walloon techniques in stone and roofing. The way it is designed with gardens and symmetry reflects the taste of that era.
The site is located in the municipality of Andenne in Namur province and is accessible via the regional road network. Visitors should note that the estate is privately owned and can only be viewed from outside.
The de Tignée family, who took over the castle around 1690, has lived on and managed the estate continuously since then. This unbroken family history makes Bonneville one of the few Belgian country estates to remain in the same hands for so many generations.
