Слатинско неолитно селище, Archaeological site in Slatina District, Bulgaria
The Slatino Neolithic settlement sits on a terrace along the left bank of the Slatinska River with cultural layers extending 4 meters deep. Excavations have revealed more than thirty houses along with household items and tools from daily life and work.
The settlement was founded at the end of the 7th millennium BCE and continued through the middle of the 6th millennium BCE. It represents one of the largest settlements of that era in the Central Balkans region.
The houses display varied construction techniques using oak posts and clay coating, reflecting how early settlers lived and built their homes. Tools and structures suggest that daily life included both practical work and ceremonial practices.
The site undergoes regular excavations by archaeologists and offers guided visits. Access and tour availability may change depending on which areas are currently being dug.
Researchers found that houses were deliberately aligned to face the prevailing northwestern winds during later phases of settlement. This careful orientation reveals how well the inhabitants understood and adapted to their local climate.
