Roman thermae complex

The Roman thermal complex spans 3000 square meters and features distinct sections for hot, warm, and cold baths connected through arched corridors and chambers.

Built during the second and third centuries CE, the complex served as a primary health center in the ancient town of Pautalia under Roman administration.

The thermal structure incorporates the Opus Mixum construction method, alternating layers of brick and mortar with crushed materials following Roman architectural traditions.

Visitors can examine the archaeological remains, including preserved sections of the heating system, water channels, and foundation structures across 1000 square meters.

The thermal complex remains stand as the second largest archaeological site in Bulgaria, demonstrating advanced Roman engineering through its intricate water management systems.
