Great Mosque of Asmara

The Great Mosque of Asmara features a prominent minaret with two platforms, balconies, and a neoclassical loggia divided into three sections below.

Italian architect Guido Ferrazza designed this religious structure in 1938 during the colonial period when Asmara was known as Little Rome.

The mosque serves as the primary gathering place for Muslim worshippers in Eritrea's capital, with regular prayer sessions and community meetings.

While the interior access remains limited to Muslims, visitors can enter through the main entrance to observe the geometric black stone patterns in the front yard.

The construction incorporates Dekemhare travertine columns topped with Carrara marble capitals, combining Italian and Islamic architectural elements.
