Semenawi Bahri National Park, National park in Northern Eritrea
Semenawi Bahri National Park is a protected area in northern Eritrea containing mountains and valleys with varying terrain and elevation zones. The landscape creates different habitats where various plant and animal species live according to the altitude and climate of each zone.
The park was created to protect native wildlife and their natural habitats from pressure and damage. This decision reflected Eritrea's commitment to preserving the region's natural environment for the future.
Local communities living around the park have deep ties to the land and pass down traditions that connect them to these landscapes. They play an active role in protecting what surrounds them while keeping their way of life alive.
The park can be reached from the main Asmara-Keren Road by turning toward Serejaka village. Several recreation centers are located throughout the area to serve as bases for exploring the landscape.
The area is home to bird species that have been recently documented by researchers and remain little studied. Alongside these birds, larger animals such as leopards and several types of antelope make their home in the region.
