Alcorcón, Municipality in Madrid Metropolitan Area, Spain
Alcorcón is a municipality in the southwestern part of the Madrid Metropolitan Area within the Community of Madrid. The town borders several neighboring municipalities and forms part of the dense urban belt surrounding the Spanish capital.
The first written mention appears in a court document from July 1208 concerning a dispute over land ownership. Over the centuries, the settlement grew from a small village into a major suburb of the capital.
The Santa María la Blanca parish church, constructed during the 16th and 17th centuries, remains the central religious structure of Alcorcón.
The town is reachable by Metro lines 10 and 12 as well as Cercanías line C-5. Regular bus connections link the center with different neighborhoods and downtown Madrid.
The municipal coat of arms shows three red pots on a green hill against a gold background. This symbolism refers to the old pottery craft that was once common in the area.
