Torrejón de Ardoz, Municipality in Community of Madrid, Spain
Torrejón de Ardoz is a town in the region of Madrid, situated about 20 kilometers east of the capital along the A-2 motorway. The area covers more than 30 square kilometers and connects residential neighborhoods with industrial zones and green spaces.
The settlement gained official status as a town in 1554 and developed from 12th-century fortifications built to protect Alcalá de Henares. Over the centuries the place grew and became an important site for defense and aviation.
The Church of San Juan Evangelista holds a painting by Claudio Coello from 1675 showing the martyrdom of Saint John. Visitors can view this work during the building's opening hours and experience an example of baroque religious art in the region.
The town has bus lines and regional trains that connect directly to the capital. Visitors will find restaurants, cafes and shops in the center, while residential areas spread mainly toward the edges.
The European Union Satellite Centre and the Spanish Space Agency have their headquarters here. These facilities work daily on projects related to Earth observation and space exploration, giving the place a special technical importance.
