La Casa Grande

La Casa Grande is a historic building in Torrejón de Ardoz featuring traditional Spanish architectural forms from the 17th century, visible in detailed stonework and symmetrically arranged windows. The structure spans multiple areas with different functional rooms and preserves the characteristic features from its original period.

The building was founded around 1600 and came under Jesuit administration, where wine, cheese, oil, and bricks were produced. Their expulsion in 1767 marked a turning point, after which the site changed hands and purposes multiple times.

The building holds a collection of over a thousand Byzantine and Russian icons that show religious artistic traditions across different time periods. Visitors can see how these works reflect the beliefs and artistic practices of their respective cultures.

The building is located near the train station and is easily accessible by public transport. Visitors should note that the rooms and courtyard have varying heights and levels, creating different areas to explore throughout the visit.

The location transformed from a production center into a luxury residence and later served as military quarters before becoming a hotel offering medieval dining experiences. This series of transformations shows how the place adapted to different needs across centuries.
