The kidnapping of Europa, Bronze sculpture group at Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas Airport, Spain.

This sculpture depicts Europa sitting on a bull and embodies Botero's interpretation of classical mythology through bold, rounded forms and generous proportions. The bronze group stands in Terminal 4 of Madrid-Barajas Airport, where it commands the space with its substantial physical presence.

Fernando Botero created this bronze work in 1992 as part of a series of three editions, with this particular piece being the second in the collection. The work emerged when the artist had already established his characteristic sculptural language on an international stage.

The sculpture presents a reimagining of the Greek mythological narrative through a contemporary artistic language that reflects Latin American perspectives on European classical themes. The voluminous, rounded forms create their own visual vocabulary that makes the mythological subject feel entirely fresh and different.

The sculpture is located in Terminal 4 of the airport, where visitors can easily spot it while moving through the airport areas. Allow time to view the work from different angles, as the level of detail and visual impact changes depending on your vantage point.

The work was intentionally selected for its airport location and adapts to the modern architecture of the terminal while maintaining its artistic independence. This balance between public space and artistic expression makes it a striking encounter between classical mythology and contemporary surroundings.
