Fernando Botero created this bronze work in 1992 as part of a series of three editions, with this particular piece being the second in the collection. The work emerged when the artist had already established his characteristic sculptural language on an international stage.

The sculpture presents a reimagining of the Greek mythological narrative through a contemporary artistic language that reflects Latin American perspectives on European classical themes.
