Estadio Nuevo Los Cármeness, football stadium in Granada, Spain
Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes is a football stadium in Granada, Spain, with red stands and a well-maintained pitch measuring about 105 meters long and 70 meters wide. The venue holds over 19,000 spectators and features modern facilities including press room, player tunnel, and a sports bar.
The original Los Cármenes site was purchased by the football club in the 1930s and began use in 1934, before the new stadium opened in 1995 with its first match between Granada CF and Bayer Leverkusen. The current facility was officially inaugurated in 1996 and has served as the club's home ever since.
The stadium's name comes from the historical Los Cármenes location, named after the garden houses in Granada's Albaicín neighborhood. This connection ties the modern venue to the city's local identity and heritage.
The stadium is located in the Zaidín-Vergeles neighborhood, within walking distance from many parts of the city center, and fills with activity, music, and conversation on match days. Visitors can arrange tours from Monday to Friday except on match days and public holidays.
In 2019 the stadium received new energy-efficient LED lights designed to reduce light pollution for nearby residents. This upgrade demonstrates how sports facilities can blend modern improvements with consideration for the surrounding community.
