Castro de Elviña

Castro de Elviña is an Iron Age settlement located on elevated terrain at around 100 meters (328 feet) above the surrounding land. Stone walls and defensive structures surround the remains of this ancient fortified community.

The settlement began in the Iron Age when Celtic tribes known as the Gallaeci inhabited and fortified the region. Archaeological excavations have uncovered numerous objects from this distant period.

The place shows how people lived and organized themselves thousands of years ago. Remains of houses and shared areas reveal the roles different people had within this early community.

The site is accessible throughout the year and provides sweeping views across the surrounding landscape. The walk to the hilltop requires some effort, but the path is generally manageable.

From above, the inhabitants could watch ships and monitor trade routes along the Galician coast. This strategic position made the settlement an important center for ancient commerce.
