Dos Hermanas, Municipality south of Seville, Spain
Dos Hermanas is a municipality south of Seville in Spain, sitting between the Guadaira and Guadalquivir rivers. Olive groves cover large parts of the landscape while residential areas fan out from the center.
The settlement began in 1248 during the Castilian conquest of Seville under Ferdinand III. The king named the place after two sisters of one of his military commanders, Gonzalo Nazareno.
The name comes from two sisters of a 13th-century royal officer, though details of their story remain unclear. Today the town carries this name forward while local festivals celebrate the connection to the Seville region through music and food.
The municipality sits close to Seville and connects through main roads, making it easy for visitors to move around. Olive processing remains an important activity here, so travelers occasionally see production facilities along rural routes.
A 232-meter (761 feet) broadcasting tower outside the town sends radio signals at high power across much of southern Spain. This facility ranks among the strongest medium wave installations in the country and stands visible from the surrounding countryside.
