Bajamar, Coastal settlement in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Spain.
Bajamar is a coastal settlement in San Cristóbal de La Laguna on the island of Tenerife, set against black volcanic rock formations. The shoreline consists of natural seawater pools formed between the rocks.
The settlement developed in the 19th century as a coastal outpost for La Laguna. Fishermen used the sheltered location to land their boats.
The name comes from the Spanish word for low tide and refers to the coastal position of the settlement. Many locals come here to swim in the natural pools and sit on the terraces overlooking the sea.
The seawater pools remain accessible throughout the year, and lifeguards are often present during summer. Visitors should watch for slippery rocks and be cautious when waves are strong.
The pools fill automatically with fresh seawater at high tide, flowing through gaps in the rock formations. At low tide, small fish and crabs can be seen in the pools.
