El Batán

El Batán consists of three distinct sectors - Batán de Arriba, Batán de Abajo, and Casas Heleras - located at 455 meters elevation within the Anaga mountains. The area features modest homes and pathways that reflect the historic layout of a mountain settlement.

The area originated as a textile processing center where water-powered mills called batanes cleaned wool and linen from the Rio stream. The settlement's name comes directly from these early industries that shaped its development.

The neighborhood maintains strong ties to its residents through celebrations honoring the Virgin of Candelaria each July. These gatherings reflect how the community continues its local traditions and stays connected.

The area connects to hiking trail PR-TF 11, which runs from Cruz del Carmen to Punta del Hidalgo and provides access to the natural landscapes of Anaga Rural Park. The best way to explore the settlement is on foot, as paths wind through the hills and between homes.

The Roque de los Milanos rock formation rises naturally above the settlement and stands as a distinctive feature of the mountain landscape. This formation has long served as a visual reference point for residents navigating the area.
