El Batán, Historic residential area in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Spain.
El Batán consists of three distinct sectors: Batán de Arriba, Batán de Abajo, and Casas Heleras, situated at an altitude of 455 meters within the Anaga mountains.
The settlement originated as a textile processing location, where water-powered machines called batanes were used for washing wool and linen from the Rio stream.
The neighborhood celebrates its patron saint festivities honoring the Virgin of Candelaria in July, bringing together residents for traditional celebrations and communal activities.
The area connects to hiking trail PR-TF 11, which extends from Cruz del Carmen to Punta del Hidalgo, offering access to the natural landscapes of Anaga Rural Park.
The Roque de los Milanos rock formation stands as a natural landmark above the settlement, marking the landscape of this mountain community.
