Cruz de Taborno, Mountain summit in Anaga Rural Park, Tenerife, Spain
Cruz de Taborno is a mountain summit in the Anaga range in northern Tenerife, reaching approximately 1000 meters in elevation. The terrain features pine forests, rocky slopes, and heath vegetation connected by marked hiking trails that wind through this varied landscape.
The summit once housed an air traffic control station in the mid-twentieth century that served the region. This installation was eventually decommissioned, leaving the mountain free for recreational use today.
The name Taborno comes from the Guanche language of Tenerife's original inhabitants. Today hikers walk the same mountain routes that have connected communities here for generations, keeping these traditional passages alive through their footsteps.
The ascent is best attempted during stable weather, so checking conditions before starting is important. Begin early in the day and bring sturdy footwear and water, as the exposed routes can be steep and the mountain air becomes cool at height.
From the summit, visitors can see both the Atlantic Ocean and Tenerife's varied landscapes at the same time. This rare vantage point reveals the island's diverse geography from a single location.
