Chueca, LGBTQ+ district in central Madrid, Spain

Chueca is a vibrant neighborhood in central Madrid with narrow streets surrounding the main plaza. The area features modern boutiques, restaurants offering international food, and a wide range of specialized shops serving many interests.

The neighborhood takes its name from Federico Chueca, a 19th-century Spanish composer who worked in the traditional zarzuela musical form. Though named after him, the area later transformed into something entirely different over time.

The neighborhood became a hub for artists and creative people who shaped its streets with galleries, independent shops, and colorful murals. You see rainbow flags everywhere and meet people from many different backgrounds who define the area's character.

The San Anton Market spreads across three floors with fresh products, cooking stations, and dining areas serving local and international dishes. This central location makes it easy to explore the neighborhood while eating or shopping for supplies.

The Longoria Palace nearby displays Modernist architecture and houses the headquarters of the Spanish Society of Authors. Most visitors overlook this building even though it stands as one of the most important examples of this architectural style in the city.
