Castle of Orgaz

Castle of Orgaz is a rectangular fortress with stone walls reinforced at the corners with ashlar blocks. A roughly 20-meter quadrangular tower rises from the center and is topped with crenellations.

The fortress was built in the 14th century on the remains of an earlier 12th-century structure. The Guzmán family fortified it further and made changes throughout the following century.

The entrance displays the coat of arms of the Guzmán family, showing the noble lineage that made this their home. These symbols remind visitors of the fortress's role in the local community.

Access to the fortress requires advance planning as tours happen on a schedule. It is wise to check for current opening hours before visiting the location.

The fortress uses corner watchtowers with arrow slits instead of traditional towers at the perimeter. This layout allowed defenders to cover the walls from multiple angles simultaneously.
