The palace features three levels of stone construction with regular ashlar masonry, displaying architectural elements influenced by Scottish castle designs.
The construction of Palacio de El Castañar started in 1904 and concluded in 1909, designed by architect Saldaña who drew inspiration from Abbotsford House.
The palace received recognition as a Cultural Heritage Site, with its main entrance featuring a rounded arch decorated with detailed moldings and archivolts.
Access to the 6,800-hectare estate requires advance reservations through the local municipality office, as the property remains under private ownership.
The grounds contain two distinct gardens: a French-style layout at the main facade and an Italian-influenced design on the southern side with fountains and pools.
