Castle of Guadamur

The Castle of Guadamur is a medieval fortress with a rectangular layout, circular towers, and a tall keep situated on a hill east of the town center. The structure was built upon the remains of an earlier Muslim fortification and displays a well-planned defensive design.

Pedro Lopez de Ayala, Count of Fuensalida, commissioned this fortress in the 15th century over the ruins of an earlier Muslim settlement. The construction marked a shift in regional control and the changing strategic importance of the area.

The castle displays Italian architectural influences such as pearl decorations and pyramid motifs that originated from its first owner. These elements give the building an unusual appearance for a Spanish fortress of that era.

The castle sits on a hilltop, so visitors should prepare for some climbing when approaching the structure. Early morning visits are best, as fewer people are present and you can explore the grounds without crowds.

The interior houses a collection of furnishings from the construction era, including armor, tapestries, and paintings. This collection offers insight into how the original owners and their family lived within this fortress.
