Algar

Algar is a settlement in Cadiz Province nestled between three mountain ranges at around 212 meters elevation within a protected natural area. The Majaceite River flows through the surrounding landscape and feeds into a major reservoir system.

The settlement was founded in 1773 when a returning settler chose to establish a new village in this location. People from nearby communities migrated here to build the initial population.

Buildings here follow the traditional White Villages style, with whitewashed walls that create a distinctive look against the green slopes surrounding the settlement. This architectural approach defines how the place appears and feels when walking through it.

The settlement is well connected by road to larger Andalusian cities and can be easily reached by car. The terrain is hilly, so comfortable walking shoes are a good idea for exploring.

The area surrounding the settlement was historically known for cork production, as the trees thrived in this terrain. This trade shaped both the landscape and the local economy for many generations.
