Nuestra Señora de las Fuentes, Secularized monastery in La Cartuja de Monegros, Spain
The rectangular monastery complex features symmetrical architecture with a central church, cloisters, and extensive corridors spanning over 2,000 square meters.
The Counts of Sastago established the monastery in 1507, but financial difficulties forced monks to temporarily relocate until their return in 1589.
Friar Manuel Bayeu, brother-in-law of Francisco Goya, created 250 mural compositions throughout the monastery during the late 18th century.
The Provincial Council of Huesca manages guided weekend tours of the restored sections of this Cultural Heritage monument.
The monastery walls contain spring water sources, which influenced its location and name Nuestra Señora de las Fuentes.
