Museo de las Momias de Quinto

The Museo de las Momias de Quinto displays fifteen naturally preserved bodies from the 18th and 19th centuries within a medieval church structure. The exhibition presents the human remains alongside personal belongings discovered in the graves.

The church building dates from the medieval period and served as a burial site for the village population until 1831. Excavations starting in 2011 revealed numerous graves, leading to the museum's opening in 2018.

The burial objects like coffins, rosaries, bracelets, and crosses show how people honored their dead in past centuries. These items reveal the beliefs and daily habits of the local community from that time.

The museum is housed in an easily accessible building in the village center and can be reached on foot. It helps to check ahead whether it will be open on your visiting day, as opening times are limited.

The exceptional preservation of the bodies results from the special underground conditions in this former church building. The microclimate and soil composition created a natural preservation environment over the centuries.
