Erandio

Located in the province of Biscay within the Basque Country, Erandio extends across 17.56 square kilometers at an elevation of 2 meters above sea level.

During the War of the Bands in 1415, Erandio became the site of a significant battle where sixty Biscayan men fell during a rebellion against wheat transfers.

The municipality maintains strong Basque traditions through its annual festivals, including patron saint celebrations and traditional ox-dragging competitions in the Astrabudua neighborhood.

Transportation options include Metro Bilbao stations, Euskotren services, and Bizkaibus connections, providing regular access to surrounding municipalities and the city of Bilbao.

Until 2024, Erandio offered motorized boat services known as 'gasolino' for river transport, continuing a centuries-old tradition of water transportation across the estuary.
